Seems HSBC stopped doing business with a number of embassies including the Vatican, without explanation. At the same time the US has closed down a number of its embassies in the Middle East. It’s all just one big coincidence, we’re quite sure; what else could it be?

It will happen when the purveyors of international commodities, oil especially, refuse to accept the letters of credit issued by untrustworthy intermediaries. And when that dark moment arrives, nations will throw tantrums. The USA may be the loudest baby in the playpen.
